How We Helped El Coto Las Canteras Elevate Its Perceived Value (and how we can help you)

There are places that impress with their beauty, and others with their history. El Coto Las Canteras has both.

We are looking at a quarry that has supplied stone — literally — to Iberians, Romans, Arabs, and entire generations of builders. From here came the masonry stone used to erect some of the most emblematic buildings in Osuna and a large part of the province of Seville. A malleable, ocher stone, extracted for more than 3,000 years.

However, what we see today was not always like this.

A Buried Space that Was Reborn

When the industrial activity ceased, the quarry was abandoned. For years, it was a rubble dump and a deteriorated, almost invisible place to those passing nearby. Until about 30 years ago, its current owners discovered it. They didn't just see it: they imagined it.

What followed were months of clearing, consolidation, and a bold bet: giving an artist freedom to intervene in the space. From that stage, works like the Iberian Lion or the huge interior mural of more than 100 m² were born. Works with a deep symbolism that, without context, can go unnoticed.

The Problem: Two Visitors, Two Different Experiences

When we analyzed the reviews of the space before collaborating with them, we detected a very clear pattern:

"Very beautiful, but I expected more explanation."
"It is impressive, but I didn't quite understand the sculptures."

For a cultural manager, this is a critical signal: spaces with self-guided visits often lose opportunities to convey their message. And when there is no connection, the perceived value drops, even if the place is incredible.

The Solution: A Modern Audioguide for a Modern Visit

At Coto Las Canteras, they knew what to do: bring history closer to those who could not join the guided tour.

Together, we created a self-guided audioguide, free with the entry ticket, accessible through a simple QR code, without downloads or applications. The goal was to give context, build connection, and elevate the perceived value.

The tour was designed covering from the gardens to the interior, with a simple system of stops explaining the historical context, the works, and the recovery effort. All of this in Spanish, English, and French.

The Impact: More Connection, More Value, Better Reviews

Barely six months have passed since its launch, but the results speak for themselves:

+6,000 Visitors have used the audioguide
4.35 Average rating (previously 4.17)
94% 3, 4, and 5-star reviews

It is particularly notable that international visitors now value the experience much more, as they understand the recovery process and the message of the space without language barriers.

Why It Works (and why it would work for you)

Because the audioguide does not replace the guide. It multiplies their impact. It allows the self-guided visitor to connect, increases the length of stay, and drives up the perceived value.

When the visitor understands, they value. And when they value, they recommend. That happened at El Coto Las Canteras, and it can happen to you.
